This marks the first announcement that Written Rock will no longer serve as the publisher for our books starting January 1st, 2024. Over the years, Written Rock has undergone significant expansion, much like how our podcasts are managed by our subsidiary, Audioh Canada. Similarly, our books will no longer be published under the Written Rock banner but will find their new home with Storiez. Initially, this transition will encompass ebooks and interactive stories. However, once our app is fully developed, it will become the exclusive platform for accessing our written content, aside from our website. what happened during week 1
Week 1 has come and gone but started with an exciting lineup of events. It all began with a Fall Festival in Port Colborne, followed by a Harvest Pie Festival in St. Catharines. We then took a step back in time with an Emo Night, featuring a DJ set by Wade Macneil from Alexisonfire. Throughout the weekend, families had the opportunity to enjoy four delightful events: the Vineland ARTFest and Thanksgiving Festival, Boo at the Zoo at Safari Niagara, and the 49th Annual Balls Falls Thanksgiving Festival. And, of course, Fallsview Casino Resort had fantastic entertainment lined up. Sergio Mendes graced the Avalon Theatre stage for multiple nights, ensuring that everyone had ample chances to savor his performance. On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of witnessing a show by Dogstar on the OLG Stage – and did we mention that Keanu Reeves is part of the band? It was truly a cool experience. Thursday brought us the legendary Bill Burr's comedy show in Niagara, followed by an evening with Blue Rodeo. The week concluded with a performance by the Kenny Wayne Sheppard Band on Saturday. Pie lovers can pre-register to attend this free event at stcatharines.ca/IWantPie.

The Fallsview Casino Resort brings us someone who doesn't need an introduction. Bill Burr is a Legendary American stand-up comedian, actor, filmmaker, and podcaster. He's released multiple stand-up comedy specials, including You People Are All the Same, I'm Sorry You Feel That Way, Walk Your Way Out, Paper Tiger, and Live at Red Rocks.
The Uncle Louie Variety Show. October 6 (6PM).
The Uncle Louie Variety Show, the premiere "old school" comedy experience, has been making audiences laugh for years with its hilarious and unique take on growing up as an Italian-American. The show is composed of two dynamic comedians, Lou Greco and Carlo Russo, who have gained international popularity with the comedic celebration of their Italian heritage. The annual WZW event is set for Saturday, October 7th at 6 pm. This family-friendly gathering is open to participants of all ages and encourages donations of non-perishable food items for The Hope Centre and pet food items for Pets Alive Niagara. It's important to remember that this event isn't solely about spooky fun; it also serves a charitable cause, supporting our neighbors in need.Participants are invited to come dressed in their best zombie costumes and convene in Downtown Welland. This event welcomes people of all ages, whether they wish to actively participate or simply enjoy the spectacle.
The event will commence at the Welland Farmers Market at 6 pm, with the WZW walk starting after 7 pm. The planned route will take participants through downtown Welland, concluding at the starting point. Notably, there will be awards for outstanding zombie costumes, generously provided by local businesses and individuals, across various categories.
The designated route this year will lead from the Welland Farmers Market to Division Street, crossing at Cross Street, and proceeding onto East Main Street. The route will include crossing Bridge 13, looping back to the Division Street bridge, and following Division Street before returning to the Welland Farmers Market.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, organizers kindly request that all zombies adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Stay on the sidewalks throughout the walk.
  • Observe and obey all traffic signals, using designated crosswalks.
  • Refrain from carrying fake weapons.
  • Avoid physical contact with spectators, property, or vehicles.

what happened during week 2
Week 2 begans with 'Track-o-Lantern,' at the Historic Fort Erie Racetrack. Fast forward to Friday the 13th, where Queen St will be abuzz as The Cat and the Monkey celebrate 13 years in business as the Niagara Falls Witches Ball presents 'Superstition.' Meanwhile, on the same eerie night, Taps Brewhouse transforms into a Halloween Party in support of Travelling Tails K9 Rescue. The following day, it's all about capturing the essence of Halloween with your furry friends. Take your beloved canines for Halloween photos, and then immerse yourself in the Queenston Harvest Festival and a captivating 'Creatures of the Night' Masquerade Ball, both happening in St. Catharines. Week 2 promises an eclectic blend of family fun, eerie celebrations, and artistic exploration, ensuring there's something for everyone as we revel in the autumn festivities.
On October 10th, the Warehouse in St. Catharines erupted with the dynamic performance of David Myles, followed the next night by Brandon Hart and Robbie G. Simultaneously, on the same night, The Gypsy Kings performed on the OLG Stage. Danko Jones comes to the Sanctuary Centre for the Arts on the 14th and from October 12-15, the Fallsview Casino hosts The Price is Right LIVE. That's right, you can literally "Come on Down" to the Fallsview Casino for a chance to test your luck. We're confident that these gatherings will provide you with fantastic moments and unforgettable memories.
'Track-o-Lantern' at the Fort Erie Racetrack. October 9 (1PM).
Children dressed up in costumes are invited to embark on a delightful trick-or-treating adventure around the track, where our vendors and concession stands will be generously handing out candies. For added fun, there's an arts and crafts table where kids can craft their very own trick-or-treat bags. Don't forget to strike a spooky pose at our photo booth, featuring a haunted castle backdrop. Plus, Fluffy The Clown will be on hand to create whimsical balloon animals. The best part? It's all free—free parking, free admission, and of course, lots of free candy for everyone to enjoy!
David Myles Trio at the Warehouse. October 10 (7PM).
"Our most fundamental questions—about how to exist in this world we share, and how best to love the people we love—so often keep us awake at the end of the day, at a loss for answers. From the plaintive opening notes of David Myles’ It’s Only a Little Loneliness, the New Brunswick-based songwriter testifies that he’s no exception:
“I could try to explain what goes on in my brain, but I’d have to pretend that I knew,” he sings on “Certain.”
On his introspective 15th studio album, Myles establishes himself as a seeker—of paths, of new sonic expressions, of God. Concrete answers, however, elude him the same as they elude the rest of us.
All of that seeking reveals one clear conclusion, though: we are bound to each other. “But it’s late at night,
and I’m reaching for the light,” he continues over soft, arpeggiated guitar on the album’s opening track.
“And I want to spend my whole life with you."
'Deleter' Film Screening at Landmark Cinemas. October 11 (6:30 - 8:30PM).
The Philippine Canadian Music and Film Festival, in partnership with Viva Films, is bringing you 'Deleter' on October 11th and October 18th at Landmark Cinemas. (Pen Centre in St. Catharines)
LYRA (Nadine Lustre) works as a social media censor in a secret sweat-shop division of a call-center office building. Every night she watches disturbing videos uploaded to the internet, filtering a filth of society. After deleting a horrific suicide video of a colleague, she is soon haunted and tormented by its mysterious uploader.
Please note that this is a fundraising event and proceeds will go towards the success of the Mist Festival (hosted by PCMFF) slated for May 18, 2024.

Brandon Hart with Robbie G at the Warehouse. October 11 (8:30PM).
Brandon Hart has always been a natural story teller. His music is a therapeutic journal of his soul. Brandon is an advocate for mental health. He writes deep hard-hitting lyrics about love, loss, addiction, and perseverance set to upbeat alt-rock and pop anthems. His music is reminiscent of the 90s era he grew up in. Hart's music can be best described as "teenage angst meets adult life.” Earlier this year Hart was part of a collaborative album titled As Far As The Stars with Tom Macdonald and Nova Rockafeller that placed on 18 different Billboard charts including two #1's, a #3 and #4. Brandon recently released his newest album titled Worried Sick including the release of five videos from the project, which have already received 800,000 views on YouTube in just three short months.

Brandon has toured North America extensively and is building a large online following and now we get to see it live at the Warehouse. See you there.

The Hauntario Comedy Fest 2023. October 12 - 14.
Get ready for a weekend of hilarity at the Hauntario Comedy Fest 2023! We're thrilled to share some laughter that will make you completely forget it's the notorious Friday the 13th weekend. Yuk Yuks is rolling in with a lineup of award-winning comedians, featuring the likes of Dave Merheje and Martha Chaves. Then, on October 14th, you won't want to miss the comedic talents of Scott Faulconbridge and Roy Daye. On the 13th, at a different venue, the Showtime Entertainment Comedy Show will kick things off, setting the stage for a fantastic and interactive comedy event on the 14th that blends hypnosis and humor. Yes, you read that right—the audience gets to participate too! The best part is, this hypnosis comedy show is all about raising funds for the Community Crew.

Dave Merheje is considered to be one of the most original standup voices on the comedy scene today. His multiple award-winning act has gained a loyal following across North America with his “no fear” approach on stage and a comedy style best described as aggressive in-your-face funny. Dave had his first comedy special air in Australia on ABC2. His second special “Good Friend Bad Grammar“ won the 2019 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the year. His third special “Beautifully Manic,” can be seen on Netflix as part of Comedians of the World, and his fourth special titled “I Love You Habibi” recently premiered on Crave TV this summer.

Dave is a regular at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, and has made multiple appearances at JFL42 in Toronto, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in Australia, and tours clubs and theatres regularly. Dave was a regular contributor on MTV Live, played Mr. Bechara on CBC’s Mr. D, and he currently co-stars in the critically acclaimed comedy series Ramy on Hulu and CraveTV.
Martha Chaves is an award-winning comedian, writer, and actor whose career spans over two decades. Now Magazine described her as "smart, sassy, provocative, and very funny." Martha has appeared multiple times at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and the We Are Funny That Way Festival, to name a few. Martha describes herself as the "most famous Nicaraguan-Canadian LGBTQ+ stand-up comedian in the world," but despite being an act of such a unique nature, she’s hilariously relatable, universally funny and accessible. She tours from coast-to-coast as a headliner for Yuk-Yuks (Canada’s  premiere chain of comedy clubs) and is also in high demand for corporate performances, conferences, and speaking engagements. She can frequently be heard on CBC's The Debaters and Laugh Out Loud.

She is a regular panellist on the popular CBC show Because News. Martha also starred in two TV specials which were broadcast nationally: Comics! on CBC and Something About Martha on CTV and the Comedy Network. Martha was named 2018's Stand-up Comic of the Year by the Canadian Comedy Awards after being nominated seven years in a row, and her CD CHUNKY SALSA was included in a list of 2019's best comedy records. During the pandemic, she created a multi-media piece Living 'La Covida Loca, which premiered online at The Hillside Festival. She also created "Beyond the Mask," another multi-media piece that was featured in "Caminos" as part of the Aluna Theatre Festival 2021 program. In 2022, she was asked to perform at the Stratford Festival. As a playwright, Martha has written and acted in several successful one-woman shows. "Staying Alive" and "In Times of Trouble" were featured in the Soulo Festival and the Aluna Theatre Festival in Toronto, respectively. "The Diaries of a Young Lezbo" premiered at SOLOCOM in New York.
