the story of the poet tree.
What started as an anthology with a few dozen people became an international group of artists from over 70 countries. This anthology when it was assembled in Fort Erie, Canada was the seed that planted the Poet Tree back in 2012. Leaves of the Poet Tree features just a handful of Niagara's most passionate songwriters and poets like: Ina Matrex, Peggy Cudmore, Adam "Toast" Middleton, Alicia Martin, Dane Falkiner, Daniel LeBlanc, Krysten Dawn Hare, Casseh Siena, Kaytee Taylor, Brigit Ferguson, Evening Giroux, Dewdrop, Justin Preston and many more.
This anthology is different because the poets all differ in not only age and gender, but style and life experience as well. This creates a wider variety of diverse emotions and really captures the human spirit for you to enjoy.

so what happened next?
After Leaves of the Poet Tree was self published, the reception from the audience was overwhelming. There were dozens of people asking when the next edition would be released and how they could be a part of it. This showed us that we should continue making these types of anthologies.
We went to several publishing companies to take on these projects but it seemed like most of their contracts were riddled with fine print details that benefited them more than the poets involved. These details are easily overlooked when they're hidden behind a bunch of legal wordplay that confuses most authors trying to find their first publishing company to sign with.
After a few months of calling several companies and hearing their consultations/sales pitches we decided the best way to move forward was to start a publishing company ourselves.
One that really tries to help the authors make money. This motivated us to really dig deep and invest everything into forming the foundation that we know today as Written Rock.
That's right! The Poet Tree can be credited for the very existence of the publishing company that's going to change how the world deals with authors... That's for another day and right now I'll continue the story of the Poet Tree.
Five years pass and Written Rock was just wrapping up a literacy tour in August and we contemplated making another Leaves of the Poet Tree Anthology. We made a call-out to the world, and it answered. Within the first 2 weeks we had received messages from (literally) thousands of people, containing tens of thousands of poems, and we knew we were on to something.
We tried to meet the demand of the group with a few smaller anthologies but realized the way we did business had to change if we wanted to become the standard for mass produced poetic anthologies. We did the smart decision to push projects aside for a year to build a sustainable marketing strategy designed to capitalize on this untapped market to aide the thousands of poets involved.
Among so many people deserving a shout-out; our founder Andrew Aitken, Membis Godwin, Jeremy Mac, Allen R Hamilton, Corey LeBlanc, and MidLogic are just a few people that definitely deserve recognition for the Poet Tree's growth into what it is today. Their consultations and hard work were instrumental into shaping how the group would grow going into the future.
Going into 2020, we've collected poems from every single continent.
A feat we didn't even try to achieve but conclusively demonstrates the marketable potential for this initiative. We're ready push forward with hundreds of anthologies every year.
